Common Questions

Why is membership important?

We believe that being a member of a church is important in the life of a believer and the local congregation. The Church is composed of everyone who has been redeemed by the life and work of Jesus Christ. Our community of believers here at Abiding Savior is one slice of that larger body. Being a member of Abiding Savior means you are committing to be a part of our faith family for fellowship, encouragement, accountability, service, baptism, and the Lord’s Supper. Because of that, we take membership seriously.

If you are interested in becoming a member, but want to know more about who we are and what we believe, we encourage you to attend our Foundations of the Faith Equipping Class. This class is offered in the spring and fall each year and is taught by a pastor. It’s a good opportunity to learn what we believe, what we are passionate about, and to ask any questions about our membership process.

What is a covenant?

A covenant is generally defined as an agreement or promise between two parties. Throughout Scripture we see several covenants (Genesis 6, 9, 15; Ezekiel 20; Hosea 2; Jeremiah 31; Matthew 26; 1 Samuel 18, 2 Samuel 5). Becoming a covenant member at Abiding Savior is to commit to living out the Christian life and commitment oneself to loving and serving the body of believers. To covenant oneself to the local body of believers means more than being committed only while it’s convenient; a covenant commitment means being committed during both the good times and the difficult times.

The membership covenant involves both responsibilities to the congregation and the congregation to you. We ask all members of Abiding Savior to covenant to carry out and live out these biblical responsibilities.
