On a couple of occasions this summer I deferred mowing our yard to our youngest son Elliot. He gladly embraced this task with zeal and energy, but invariably I had some unfinished tasks to attend to upon completion: like putting the sump pump hose back into the yard, attaching at least one rain downspout, and perhaps sweeping the grass clippings from the sidewalk. In the end, the task was not quite finished up to my expectations (although I certainly appreciated his efforts!)

I was reflecting upon this as I prepped this final sermon on the Sola’s of the Reformation, “Christ Alone”. When we consider biblically the work of salvation, we must agree with the Reformers that it all depends on Christ Alone and that we cannot add, supplement, nor put a bow on Christ’s finished work on the Cross, and any effort as such will be found deficient. This Sola speaks to the all-sufficiency of Christ and this week, beginning with Acts 4:12, we will learn the significance of this fact for our lives now and for eternity.
